Windows XP, the latest bout before death?
But what about the good old XP?
Released in 2001, Windows XP has changed a lot in our use of Windows:
– More than MS DOS, it will be emulated
– Better management of the Windows environment with a panel and a more comprehensive registry more accessible and understandable
– Supported native WiFi (even if it took the Service Pack 2 to manage it properly)
– Support hard drives over 200GB (although still SP2 was often necessary)
– An easy access for all newcomers in the daily tasks
In short, it was very promising!
But it has undergone many worries of compatibility, bugs, “blue screen of death” (the famous BSOD) USB remained shaky and so forth.
Thus in 2003 the Service Pack 1 lot, a block of 135.6 MB resolving some major problems.
For the user still in SP1, be aware that its takeover by Windows was completed in October 2006.
But this was not sufficient!
Thus in 2004 a 2nd Service pack far more comprehensive and far more consequence will emerge: SP2
This one finally bring the long-awaited stability.
Although more than a simple update, it is almost a complete overhaul of some elements: 262.2Mo we are seeing a new management tool Wifi, shed a level of network tools for XP family, possibility of removing unnecessary elements of Windows (like MSN Messenger or explore .. )….
For nearly 4 years, SP2 will be the benchmark for XP.
Petit link for those who want to download SP2:

But today, less than 2 months of the end of the marketing of this operating system, Microsoft releases latest Service Pack: SP3.
This one was long overdue (on the announcement since late 2006 …). He was first out at the same time as Vista, but for logistical reasons or commercial, Microsoft has delayed his exit and announced with SP1 of Vista.
The SP1 of Vista has arrived but not the SP3.
So 2 weeks later that the SP3 fate with a clear intention on the part of Microsoft’s power to close the page and move XP has Windows 7, ex Windows Vienna, announced for 2009.
So you will not have to be downloaded over 150 updates after you installed XP SP2, you only need a simple CD with the SP3.
It is this time a pack of 317Mo therefore expect a bit of time (I wrote this article in the downloading or 20 minutes).
In terms of functionality, I traiterais in an upcoming article.
For example, Windows XP has lived for over 7 years with a basic installation has 1.3GB in its default and has had more than 770Mo updates to Service Pack without counting minor updates.
The end of the marketing will be effective from June 30 (except for the end of stocks), the end of care will be April 14, 2009 with the possibility for companies to have 3 years of additional care, and April 8, 2014, Windows XP will be officially declared as dead by Microsoft.
XP is dead, long live Vista!
I am slipping into the headset that finally SP3 is not available due to a bug discovered a few hours before the provision for the general public.
It would be a serious bug which would also Vista SP1.
Like what, even at the gates of death, XP continues to talk about his bugs.
