Windows XP: SP3 prevents intallation of IE7

Microsoft has officially made available on Windows XP SP3 before a planned integration for the month of June in the mechanism for automatic update of Windows Update. At the same time, a ticket issued in the blog MSDN IEBlog, gave an insight into an issue that is doing polemic - remains to be seen whether there really matter - and on the Internet Explorer Web browser in the version 7 .

To avoid the mixing of genres
“If you choose to install the SP3 Windows XP, Internet Explorer 7 will remain on your system after the completion of the SP3. Your preferences will be stored. However, you will not be able to uninstall IE7. If you go to Add / Remove Programs from the Control Panel, the option of deleting IE7 will be gray, “says Jane Maliouta, Program Manager at Microsoft. Importantly, this maneuver for IE7 is valid only for users who are already using IE7 with Windows XP SP2.

The uninstall IE7 becomes not impossible but for the less restrictive because it will first go through the SP3 and thus restore life to IE6 (the default browser on Windows XP) is still the version of Internet Explorer most used. The good compromise for those who are not yet fully convinced by IE7 or want to keep the possibility to easily remove, is to uninstall it before installing the SP3 to resettle thereafter the latest version of the browser independently and thus keep full control over the latter with Windows XP SP3.

To legitimize this decision, Maliouta advance that a return to IE6 after uninstall IE7 in Windows XP SP3, would coexist file updated with the SP3 with IE6 restored files which are not.

Note also that users who have installed the beta 1 of IE8 on Windows XP SP2, will not be proposing the installation of SP3 via Windows Update.
