Microsoft blocks Youtube in Windows Live Messenger
Indeed, if you send a link to a video stored on the site Youtube messaging via Windows Live Messenger, the latter is blocked and will not be able to your correspondent. A censure which is not unlike the ebuddy blocking links in MSN.
So far, the technique of blocking could still be seen vis-à-vis a security aspect, such as a halt sending executable files and thus potential virus. But it is difficult to understand the purpose of blocking Youtube videos, if not censorship smacks of the trade war.
Towards a censure of the competition?
As a reminder, the portal is the Youtube giant Google, and is in direct competition of the MSN Video platform launched by Microsoft. The fact block Youtube within the e-mail software most used in France is therefore anything but anecdotal, and clearly shows the willingness of Microsoft to survive in this area, by all possible means.
All this is also drawing a parallel with the willingness of Microsoft to buy Yahoo, and gaining ground, face to Google, this time in the field of research on the web.
Anyway, this strategy penalizes users that we are, and it is not clear that this censorship is very appreciated …
