After Asus, MSI and Gigabyte leaving their Eee PC

MSI and Gigabyte should market their version of the Eee PC during the second quarter of this year. Prices are expected to vary between 299 and 699 €.

The famous Eee PC, ultra-portable PC marketed by Asus end of 2007, seems to have launched the trend of returning to the PC ultraportables simple, basic, compact and very affordable (299 € for the Eee PC). The year 2008 should see the birth of many competitors in the Eee PC.

Indeed, at a time when purchasing power is a sensitive subject, the race for engaged performances that PC manufacturers can sometimes seem excessive. It did not necessarily need a supercomputer to see his vacation photos, write a text or surf the web…

In January, a rumor was launched on a computer that looks strangely MSI to Asus Eee PC. A few weeks later, it was the turn of Gigabyte talking about a computer 7 to 9 inches cheap. If certain technical characteristics were filtered, the release dates were not yet known.

We know now that these laptops should come out this quarter.

On one of Gigabyte, it will be equipped with a 8.9-inch screen, a CPU Atom compatibility and Bluetooth. Interestingly, and contrary to MSI for example, it will be available in Windows XP or Linux.
