XP SP3, Vista SP1, Windows 7, Microsoft precise timetable
A SP3 and flies
The code Service Pack 3 for Windows XP is now frozen (it is in RTM for Release To Manufacturing). It will be available for download on April 29, 2008 (RTW for Release To Web). Its integration with automatic updates will happen, however, not until early summer.
The SP3 compile patches issued since SP2 and adds a score NAP (Netwok Access Protection), from Windows Server 2008. This helps to quarantine workstations compromise. No other novelty will be this: the SP3 will therefore not only improve the performance of the system faces a PC running Windows XP SP2 (if the latter has been updated regularly).
Microsoft confirms it: Windows XP will be marketed until 30 June 2008, for versions box and licenses used by major manufacturers. The local assemblers, however, may buy up to 30 January 2009. Another exception, the UMPC (Ultra-Mobile PC) will have access to Windows XP until 30 June 2010. The company is aware that this operating system is more suitable in terms of resources and less greedy than Vista. Regarding the petition to save Windows XP, the company stresses that any customer who uses Windows Vista Professional (OEM) can install Windows XP. This will remain valid even after the discontinuation of the latter.
Vista first, the latest Windows 7
Didier Burdinat also recalls the new production cycles of Microsoft, is an operating system every three years. Given that Windows Vista is released on January 20, 2007, Windows 7 should therefore make its appearance in early 2010, with a RTM end of 2009. He noted that businesses expect general SP1 of an operating system to migrate. It is therefore unlikely that Windows Seven will be adopted by professionals before mid-2011.
Considering this, we are nonetheless entitled to ask ourselves whether a three-year cycle between each system is not too short. Indeed, it is difficult for a company to adopt an operating system version SP1 (approximately 18 months after its release), even though the next 18 months will come later. It seems likely that some customers traîneront feet facing this rate imposed, even skip a generation.
Microsoft wants to be reassuring, however, on sales of Windows Vista. The company said that several major accounts currently migrate to this system: PSA, EDF, and so on. Windows Vista SP1 will also be proposed within the next few days on automatic updates. Windows Update and install SP1 on computers owners of Vista, in the days and weeks to come.
Finally, on more than contradictory studies institutes analysis, Didier Burdinat feels “totally disagree” on the latest Gartner study, which provides a decline of Windows. “In our opinion, it is based on incomplete data on Windows 7 and Windows 8,” he says.
